THE public has spoken and the Bournemouth Daily Echo and Grooves on the Green festival is delighted to introduce Lee Rasdall-Dove and The Daisie Ukuladies, the first acts to be chosen by public vote for this year’s bill.

Music student Lee’s sharp indie folk is just beginning to make an impact on the wider world and he’s already in demand at festivals up and down the country; while The Daisie Ukuladies are four females of the species who manage to imbue covers of classics ancient and modern with that special ukulele charm.

Both entered The Calling contest to win places on the Calling Stage at Grooves on the Green run by Si Genaro, whose second appearance on The Voice this year was marked by will.i.am giving him his email address and insisting they keep in touch.

The Calling gives local musicians the opportunity to be heard by 270,000 unique users every single week. Every month there will be a public vote and a panel of judges who will pick two acts from the most popular musical talent.

If you're a local musician, then you can submit your MP3 with a short bio and picture to us here.

All acts must include a name, location and contact email address and be available to perform at Grooves on the Green festival on either July 11 or 12. Prize does not include travel, accommodation and refreshments.

All usual terms and conditions apply and can be found at bournemouthecho.co.uk/terms.

“The Calling has gone out far and wide and the standard of entries has been amazing,” says festival director Michael Callaghan.

“Not only that, but it has generated a real buzz locally as music fans have been logging on to listen to the tunes and vote on who they’d like to see at Grooves. Now they can do it all again this month, we can’t wait to hear what comes next.”

Lee Rasdall-Dove and The Daisie Ukuladies are joining a bill that is already shaping up to be the strongest in the 15-year history of Grooves on the Green. The main stage, programmed by Solid Air, Conrad Barr’s bastion of the Bournemouth live music music, is headlined on Saturday by the incredible Dorset-based five-piece funk collective the Baker Brothers who are making time to play the local show as part of the international promotional schedule for their latest album, Hear No Evil.
