A LITTLE girl from Wareham who can’t walk will be the beneficiary of a concert hosted by Wareham Town Band next month.

Roxy Berry, who lives with mum, Gina, dad, Colin, and twin sister, Willow, in Cold Harbour, will receive all proceeds from the band’s show at Lady St Mary Church on Saturday, April 11.

Roxy, who has Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy, has been assisted by her family in collecting donations towards a £50,000 operation, Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) which would give her a chance to walk unaided.

Mum, Gina, said: “Wareham Town Band and the Lions Club of Wareham wanted to hold the concert to help fund Roxy’s operation, which we are really pleased about.

“Normally we ask people for their help, but they came to us to ask if the donations could go to Roxy, which is really good.

“After the success of their autumn concert, they wanted to do a spring one for her.”

Nathaniel Roff, assistant director of music for Wareham Town Band, said: “We did a concert in October for Heroes Haven in Swanage, which was our first for five years as we normally do parades and fetes.

“The Wareham Lions Club helped us to arrange this and after I met the family at the end of January I rang the conductor straight away.

“I saw that they were lovely and heard about what they have been through and so I knew that they were worth helping.”

  • Tickets are available for £7.50 from Farwells in Wareham, via the Wareham Town Band Facebook page and website, the Lions Club of Wareham or from Roxy’s mum, Gina.
