LUCKY university students will get some of the best views in town when they take residence in Bournemouth’s highest building.

At 16 floors high, the new ‘Live-Learn’ facility in Holdenhurst Road, part of a £110million investment, will offer stunning views out to the Isle of Wight, Old Harry, the Isle of Purbeck and the New Forest.

The Bournemouth University Inter-national College will incorporate accommodation, teaching and social spaces, including 392 beds in group flats and studios, a “Knowledge Hub” and a refectory featuring foods from around the world.

It is a collaboration between Kaplan International and Bournemouth University and aims to prepare international students for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Bournemouth University.

Successful completion of the College’s preparation courses with the grades required by the University will mean students are guaranteed a place at the university.

Professor John Vinney, Vice-Chancellor of Bournemouth University, said: “This building is an exciting new development in our constant efforts to offer the best student experience possible and is a very tangible demonstration of how much we value our international students.

“The boost that they give to the local economy is huge, but that in turn is dwarfed by the importance of the global perspective that they bring, which is absolutely essential in developing the cultural awareness of the University and preparing all of our students for the global work-place.”

Rachel Woodward Carrick, college director, said: “Housing classrooms, study space, accommodation and social space together in one state-of-the-art building will give students a safe and convenient living and learning environment with more time to immerse themselves in their studies.”

The £35million building is funded by Legal and General and built by the Watkin Jones Group.
