JACOB Peters and Jenny Scott led the way as the 2015 Dorset Championships opened with a spree of record-breaking at Littledown.

Two county records and 17 competition best times (CBTs) fell during the first two days of the championships with Peters and Scott setting nine marks between them.

Poole’s Peters, 14, was the outstanding junior performer with six junior titles from his six events as well as two gold and four silver medals at senior level.

In the 50m backstroke, his time of 27.37sec knocked 0.2 off former national age group champion Alan Wong’s Dorset junior record as well as lowering the junior and 14yrs CBTs.

Wong had to settle for second place in this event but positions were reversed in the 100m backstroke as the Swim Bourne-mouth man produced a late surge to snatch the senior title by 0.05sec in 58.56.

Peters’ 58.61 broke the junior and age group CBTs and he also set a 14yrs CBT in the 100m freestyle (53.75).

The women’s 50m backstroke also produced one of the races of the weekend with Jenny Scott (Tornadoes of South Dorset) and Beth Aitchison (Bournemouth Collegiate School) both dipping under a Dorset senior record set 15 years ago by Ferndown Otters’ Jessica Brown.

Scott’s 30.07 is also a senior and 17/o CBT. Aitchison clocked 30.16.

Aitchison, 17, the weekend’s outstanding senior swimmer, went on to win the 50 and 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.

Her breaststroke time of 2:29.05 broke the senior and age group CBTs but was half-a-second short of her own Dorset senior record.

Brother Zak Aitchison set a 16yrs CBT as he won the men’s 200m breaststroke in 2:29.98.

Swim Bournemouth’s Harriet Perfect joined the record-breaking with a 14yrs CBT of 1:04.98 in the 100m backstroke – one of three junior titles for her.

The 10yrs age group produced five CBTs, including two each for Seagulls’ Isaac Ellis and Poole’s Robbie Hemmings.

Ellis set new figures to the 100m butterfly in 1:19.86 and the 200m medley in 2:50.35.

Hemmings’ CBTs came in the 50 and 100m backstroke in 36.41 and 1:18.75.

Swim Bournemouth’s Amy Brown produced an outstanding time to win the 10yrs 200m breaststroke in a CBT of 3:08.35.

Bournemouth Collegiate School entered relay teams for the first time – and won three of the six team titles – the women’s and 12/u girls’ medley relays and the boys’ 14/u freestyle in which they smashed the CBT.

Poole won the men’s and 12/u boys’ freestyle relays with Swim Bournemouth taking the 14/u girls’ medley.

Although Poole won the most senior and junior titles, Swim Bournemouth’s greater number of age group awards sees them lead the medals table with 63 gold, 49 silver and 57 bronze.

Other leading medal tallies (including senior and junior): BCS 43, 51, 34; Poole 34, 40, 40; Seagulls 25, 5, 19.
