VOLUNTEERS working at a stretch of east Dorset woodland have installed information boards thanks to a council donation.

Members of the Friends of Uddens and Cannon Hill Woodlands decided to use their share of a community grant to place the boards at the entrances to the woods between Wimborne and Ferndown.

The signs show a map and information panel, as well as weather-proof holders for the latest news and events.

Chairman of the Friends, Janet Healy, said: “It’s great to have the recognition and support from East Dorset District Council for what we are trying to achieve in the woods for the community and wildlife. “We hope the boards will enc-ourage locals, visitors and users of the Castleman Trailway to explore this diverse woodland.”

The Friends hold regular work parties in the woods that are open to all. Tools, training and refreshments supplied.

The next event will be on March 14 off Uddens Drive, where volunteers will continue to clear invasive rhododendron from an historic beech avenue.
