PLANS to create extra parking spaces in Moordown have been successful in securing funding, it has been confirmed.

The idea is to create additional bays outside HSBC bank and Moordown post office on Wimborne Road to prevent shoppers from clogging up residential roads.

The three Moordown ward councillors carried out a survey last year to try and assess demand for extra parking spaces after being alerted to a potential funding pot. The scheme was also supported by Moordown Traders’ Association.

Cllr Beverley Dunlop said it had now been confirmed the funding was in place and the scheme could go ahead.

“It’s taken a lot of work to get to this position and I’m really pleased at this good news,” she said. “There is a need for more short visit spaces so people driving past can simply stop and pop into the bank, post office or shops there.

“It’s important to the survival of those businesses and of Moordown high street that people can access shops quickly and easily.”

Any residents wishing to find out more about the scheme are urged to attend a surgery at Moordown Community Centre this Saturday.

Cllrs Beverley Dunlop and Sue Anderson will be there between 10am and 11.30am to answer questions about the proposals and the schedule of works.
