A RENOWNED author from Poole and Dorset actor Martin Clunes are among a host of famous faces doodling their bit for charity.

John Le Carre and the Doc Martin star have put pen to paper to help raise funds for the national charity Epilepsy Action.

Their doodles will feature alongside dozens more in a 10-day eBay auction starting on Friday, February 6, which is National Doodle Day.

Le Carre, who is famous for his espionage novels, has drawn a self-portrait of himself on his 83rd birthday.

Commenting on his work, he said: “My very best wishes to the owner of this uninspiring self-portrait.”

Meanwhile, the actor and comedian Martin Clunes doodled an elephant.

“Sorry, it’s the only thing I can draw,” he said.

Their scribbles will join doodles from a variety of household names including writers Margaret Atwood and Julia Donaldson, Sir Bruce Forsyth, Joanna Lumley, and Karl Pilkington.

Philippa Cartwright, fundraising manager at Epilepsy Action, said: “Every year we’re overwhelmed by support from celebrities and always look forward to seeing the variety and creativity of the doodles they send in.”

She added: “National Doodle Day is always a terrific success, raising thousands of pounds for Epilepsy Action.”

Members of the public can take part in National Doodle Day by creating and uploading their scribbles at nationaldoodleday.org.uk. Every doodle uploaded will be entered into a competition. The winners will be chosen via an online vote. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 20. The eBay auction will run from Friday, February 6, to Sunday, February 15.
