A “SUBSTANTIAL” sewage burst left a road in Hengistbury Head flooded in waste.
A spokesman for Wessex Water confirmed last night that a pressurised sewer on Clowes Avenue burst at around 4.30pm resulting in gallons of sewage streaming down the road.
He said: “This is a substantial burst and tankers will be needed to remove the waste, however the road is still passable and did not need to be closed.
“We would like to apologise to everybody affected by this incident.”
He added that the tankers would be continuing to pump the waste away throughout the evening and could not predict when it would be cleared.
A similar incident on Clowes Avenue resulted in a number of residential garages being flooded with sewage in January 2011.
