MOTORISTS are being warned to expect some disruption on the A31 Ringwood Road while new energy efficient streetlights are installed.

Temporary road closures will be in place between Wallisdown Roundabout and Bear Cross Roundabout during off peak hours until the middle of next week. The works are part of a major scheme to replace all streetlights in the borough to low energy LED lanterns. The council says 90 per cent of the borough’s lights have been changed.

Cllr Michael Filer, portfolio holder for transport, said: “The new LED lighting looks marvellous and I am delighted at how successful the rollout operation has been to date.

“The new lighting looks clean resulting in less light pollution and is saving the council around 73 per cent a year on its annual £1.1m energy costs – money that can be used to safeguard frontline services.”
