MOTORISTS are being warned to expect further delays while works continue along Castle Lane West.

Three-way temporary traffic lights have been introduced at the junction to East Way to allow for drainage connections to be completed.

These are due to be removed early next week but will be followed by more temporary lights at the approach to Castle Gate Close while SembCorp carry out improvements to the water network.

The works are part of a major scheme to improve cycling, walking and public transport facilities on the busy Bournemouth road.

But the changes have caused concern for locals who say the new cycle traffic light scheme is dangerous and confusing.

Ian Kalra, head of transportation services at Bournemouth Borough Council, said: “We would like to assure commuters and residents that the new layout and signals have been implemented to appropriate safety standards.

“Signs are in place to make drivers aware of the new road layout as they approach the junction. Following a monitoring period further adjustments are required to reduce confusion for motorists.”
