UPDATED plans for a major multi-million pound business park at Bournemouth Airport have been handed to planners once again.

The scheme for the £60million Aviation Business Park West was submitted following lapsed approval of a scheme previously granted in 2011.

The development is likely to create more than 1,200 new jobs and will be implemented on a phased basis over 15years.

Demolition of a number of ‘poor-quality’ buildings will be involved in the redevelopment and will include unused land formerly part of taxiway clearance zone restrictions.

The new units will be a mix of commercial uses, with the flexibility for multiple occupiers.

And there will also be provision for a small-scale retail facility, financial services and a crèche, in a bid to ensure more services are on-site to help workers and reduce car trips.

It is hoped the work will increase investment in the park, which is ‘constrained by the current image’.

A report sent with the planning application says improvement to the attractiveness and the facilities available to occupants ‘would be important if it is to succeed as a major business location moving foward.’

It adds: “Aviation Park West is an established and successful business park. This intensification of uses and improvement in appearance and identity will help to ensure the ongoing success and sustainability of the park so that it remains a regionally important employment and business location.”

Lynda Shillaw, MAG Property CEO said: “The application in question is to renew our existing planning permission to ensure future use and development of Aviation Business Park at Bournemouth Airport.

“Aviation Business Park currently provides 1.6m sq ft of business space, supports over 200 businesses and around 2,500 jobs. Existing major occupiers include: Honeywell, Babcock, Meggitt, Siemens, Cobham and CSE Citation.”

A detailed application for redevelopment of the AIM Aviation site was approved in 2012 following the original outline scheme in 2011.

The business, which has premises in Boscombe and at Bournemouth Airport, was looking to consolidate their sites, with the new development providing them with modern production, storage, and office facilities.
