TWO local charities have benefitted from funds raised by Poole Harbour Commissioners throughout the year.

A total of £2,246.50 was split equally between Julia’s House children’s hospice and the Youth Cancer Trust.

Both charities were selected by staff at PHC and each received a donation of £1,123.25.

The grateful thanks of the charities was received in letters explaining where the money would be used.

Julia’s House, community fundraiser, Ian Wadley, said: “Thanks to Poole Harbour Commissioners’ terrific donation, we are able to help families with the challenges of caring for a seriously ill child.

“This donation will make a real difference to a family who, without Julia’s House, would have very little support.”

The Youth Cancer Trust, a Bournemouth charity that provides a refuge for young people aged 14 to 30, will use the funds raised by PHC to directly support the holidays of two youngsters at Tracy Ann House.

Jim Stewart, commissioner’s chief executive, pictured inset, said he was pleased to support these two local charities.

“We like to do as much as we can to support families that are struggling to cope with the demands of looking after a poorly child,” he said.

“The work achieved by both Youth Cancer Trust and Julia’s House is remarkable. It’s great to know our donations will go towards helping youngsters to enjoy experiences they never thought they would have again.”

Poole Harbour Commissioners are responsible for the trust port and for managing the commercial, leisure and environmental aspects of the harbour, which is the largest in Europe.
