STAFF and pupils are celebrating record results at Bournemouth’s Elm Academy.

For the first time ever, all of its pupils reached the national benchmark standard level 4 in every subject, putting the school top of the primary school league tables in the borough.

And the number of students reaching the higher level 5 – exceeding national standards – has more than tripled.

The school was rated Outstanding by Ofsted in April and Head of School, Helen Janda, has praised children and teachers for their hard work.

“We are thrilled that every single one of our students reached the national standard in all subjects – grammar, punctuation and spelling, reading, writing and maths,” she said.

“The results are testament to the hard work of everyone and their dedication to keep improving. We are also seeing far more students exceed what is expected of them and that is a standard we intend to carry on improving.”

In maths, 62 per cent reached level 5 compared with 18 per cent last year. In reading, the figures were 48 and 15 respectively and in writing, 38 and six. Results for grammar, punctuation and spelling were first introduced last year when just 45 per cent made it level 4. This year, every pupil made the grade and 86 per cent achieved level 5.

It is just five years since the school, then called Elmrise, was placed in special measures. It was sponsored by the old Oakmead Technology College and became part of the Learning and Achievement Federation (LeAF) in December 2012.

LeAF’s executive principal, Dr Annetta Minard, said: “This year’s Ofsted showed just how much work has taken place to improve every area in the school and that hard work is now paying off in academic results.”
