Ukip opened a second constituency office in Bournemouth on Saturday.

The office unit, in Lansdowne Road near the bus route to the railway station, was donated to the party by a supporter and is to be used as a hub for campaigners during next year's General Election.

Ukip deputy chairman Suzanne Evans attended to cut the ribbon. The launch was a quieter affair than that of the party's Pokesdown shop in a busy high street in August, which heckled by a group of anti-Ukip protestors.

The party's candidate for Bournemouth West, Martin Houlden, said he was delighted with the location.

“We are on one of the busiest routes in the town here,” he said.

“This will be a hub where people can come to pick up leaflets and plan for the months ahead.”

Mr Houlden, who first moved to Bournemouth in 1992, said he felt his party could offer constituents “representation” which he said was currently denied them due to the existing party system.

“Our goal is to get people more interested in politics, more engaged,” he said.

Dorset and Bournemouth West party chairman John Beresford also attended. He said: “This is a great step for the party locally.

“It offers people a calling point where their voices can be heard.”
