TWO people were treated in hospital for head injuries after masked men burst into their home while they slept and attacked them with metal bars.

Detectives yesterday appealed for information following the worrying attack that took place on Poole’s Turlin Moor Estate in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Neighbours told the Daily Echo they saw police and paramedics in Egmont Road, where the attack took place, but didn’t know anything else about the incident.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: “No-one likes to hear of this sort of thing happening in their doorstep, but I understand it was an isolated |incident.”

A woman in her 50s and a man in his 20s were taken to hospital with head wounds following the 3am attack.

Dorset Police, who are urging witnesses to come forward, say three masked men let themselves into the house and attacked the sleeping residents with metal bars.

Detective Constable James Taylor, of Bournemouth and Poole CID, said: “Following the attack the three offenders walked casually up Egmont Road toward South Haven Close.

“One of the attackers had a local accent while another was wearing a dark coloured crash helmet with blue and red markings around the front.

“I am appealing to anyone with information as to who might have carried out this attack to speak with us in confidence. I would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen the three offenders in the area at the time.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 22:64. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
