MORE than 200 young dancers are setting out to bewitch their audience with a high energy stage show.

Enchanted is a colourful production of favourite magical stories which will be unveiled during two performances at Bournemouth Pavilion on Sunday, November 30.

Eight dance schools from across the conurbation, affiliated to the Western Association of Ballet Schools has each brought to life a well loved story.

These range from Sleeping Beauty to Matilda, Edward Scissorhands to Frozen, Rise of the Guardians, Merlin and Tangled.

Each popular story is adapted to dance and performed by talented youngsters whose ages range from five to 18-years.

“There is a mix of a lot of dance genres,” said Charles Gunton, chairman of the association. “As well as ballet there is tap, contemporary, modern and jazz.”

With dress rehearsals taking place on Sunday (Nov 23) the final polish was applied to performances which attract family and friends to the 2.30pm matinee and 7.30pm shows.

The big annual show is a long standing event which was first staged at the old Winter Gardens in 1975, where it ran until 1992, before finding a home at the Pavilion, where it has been ever since.

“It gives the kids a chance to perform in public,” said Mr Gunton. “It’s something they will look on with fond memories.”

The Western Association of Ballet Schools was founded in 1975 and its president is former principal dancer with the Royal Ballet, Wayne Sleep.

Tickets for the show are available from the booking office.
