A BIKER was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision along a busy Poole road on Saturday morning.

Dorset Police were called to the scene of the crash, near the Co-op supermarket, Blandford Road, Hamworthy, after the collision involving a car and a motorbike.

The motorcyclist, a Poole man, was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital.

Officers investigating told the Daily Echo the other man, also from Poole, was uninjured in the incident.

Police cordoned off a 200-yard section of Blandford Road, between Coles Avenue and Ashmore Avenue, and diversions were put in place for around two hours.

Sergeant Sarah Jones, of Dorset Police said: “The motorcyclist was taken to Poole General Hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

“The closure was in place while our collision investigators examined the road and the vehicles.

“I’d like to thank the public for their patience while the closure was in place.”

After the specialist collision investigators finished at the scene, the two vehicles – a black Yamaha motorbike and a black Vauxhall Corsa - were loaded onto a recovery truck and the road re-opened around 1pm.

Neighbour Peter Butts said: “Obviously I don’t know what has happened in this instance but it doesn’t surprise me. This road is an accident waiting to happen. The young people all have these fancy cars and they use this road as a racetrack.”

Another resident, who asked not to be named, said he saw paramedics attending to the motorcyclist.

“It was worrying to witness, especially afterwards when the police started taking all the measurements. You know it hasn’t just been a minor prang when that is going on. I hope the guy makes a full recovery.”

Witnesses should contact Dorset Police on 101.
