THE body of a young man was found hanging outside a residential building in the middle of the night.

Emergency services were called to Queens Road at around 12.20am yesterday after a man in his 20s was found unconscious and not breathing.

Paramedics were unable to save him and the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Max Fitzgerald was driving home from work when he saw the silhouette of the man hanging outside a block of flats at the junction of Suffolk Road.

The 26-year-old said: “I drove down the road and saw a police car behind me. Then I realised there were three police cars parked up on the side of the road.

“I looked up and saw the shape of a body hanging halfway between the first floor and the second floor.

“I almost didn’t believe what I had seen. It was pretty harrowing.”

A local resident, who lives on Suffolk Road, said he was left disturbed after seeing the body on his way home after celebrating the Cherries win.

The 31-year-old said: “As the taxi driver turned into Suffolk Road we saw all the police cars and ambulances.

“It looked like someone was hanging from a window or the roof of the building. The taxi driver and I were both really shocked. I couldn’t sleep last night – it kept playing on my mind.”

Residents at the block of flats, Midland Heights, said they saw police outside the building but were unaware of the tragic incident.

Michael Navrati, who lives on the first floor of the converted hotel said he was woken up shortly before 1am.

He said: “We looked out of the window and saw the police on the roof but we had no idea what had happened.”

Cllr David Smith, town centre member for Bournemouth Borough Council, said: “I’m very saddened to hear of this young man’s death and I have every sympathy for his family and friends who will be coming to terms with this tragedy.”

A spokesman from Dorset Police said officers were called to the scene at 12.22am following reports a body had been found.

The force spokesman said: “The death is not being treated as suspicious and the next of kin have yet to be informed. The coroner has been made aware.”
