A trio of British Olympic and Commonwealth Games swimming stars were on-hand to help youngsters at a special water activity day in Poole.

The event, called Oceans of Fun, took place at two of the town’s leisure centres on Sunday.

Scores of youngsters attended the initiative, held at the Dolphin Swimming Pool, Kingland Road then at Rossmore Leisure Centre, Herbert Avenue.

Olympic and Commonwealth stars Adam Whitehead, Adam Scholefield and Louise Woolley helped put the children through their paces in a range of disciplines.

Event organiser Steve Parry, who teamed-up with the swim brand Zoggs to put on the event, said: “We hope to inspire, motivate and educate young people who had the chance to come along and take part in these events for free.

“They not only learned a huge amount at these events but got a once-in-a-lifetime chance to swim against a top athlete and, we hope, begin to understand the benefits, and enjoyment, of adopting an active, healthy lifestyle.” Activities included mini water polo, fast swimming, synchronised swimming, rookie lifeguarding and a poolside CPR demonstration.

Adam Whitehead competed in the 100 and 200m breaststroke at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Louise Woolley represents Team GB in the synchronised swimming, while Olympian Adam Scholefield played in the water polo team for Britain at London 2012.
