STUDENTS at a Dorset school have clocked up more than a hundred miles for charity between them.

Now it’s their deputy head teacher’s turn.

Joe Barnett who works at Beaucroft School near Wimborne, is set to complete their fundraising mission when he takes part in the Bournemouth marathon on Sunday.

He says they hope to raise more than £1,000 for The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF).

“All the children have been running laps of the school field to help raise sponsorship,” he explained. We are a special school and have received a lot of support for our students from the JTYAF so we would like to raise money to give back to a local, fantastic and inspiring charity.”

The students have been using a treadmill and completing laps of the school field to complete a total of 109 miles, which is the distance from their school to the Olympic Park in London.

Mr Barnett, who took part in the half marathon at the inaugural Bournemouth Marathon Festival last year, is one of thousands of people taking part in the 26-mile race.

He said: “Earlier this year the charity paid for students to spend three nights afloat with the Tall Ships Trust so this is a great opportunity to put a bit back.”

The locally-based charity supports young people in a wide range of youth organisations in Dorset and provides scholarships to support their personal development and the pursuit of their ambitions.
