DRAMATIC fire displays enchanted visitors to Bournemouth over the weekend as part of the popular Arts by the Sea Festival.

Following spectacular acrobatic performances to launch the event on Friday, Compagnie Carabosse, a French street theatre company, wowed crowds in Bournemouth with their fiery installations.

The free displays on Friday and Saturday lit up the gardens with visitors suitable impressed with the captivating sight.

It is the fourth year of the popular event, with this year’s theme On the Edge proving popular.

Over 17 days of the event, international premieres, new commissions, first time performers and familiar favourites will all get the chance to display their talents and inspire audiences and guests.

Another highlight, Fuel on the Roof, a 3D theatrical experience, proved popular with audiences and families were also able to take part in other events in Bournemouth Gardens including a chance for people to build their own boat to sail down the Bourne stream.

There was also a ‘live mermaid’ performance at Bournemouth’s Pier Approach with classic family films on show in the Vintage Mobile Cinema.

Peut-être Theatre were also performing mini outdoor gigs for youngsters and their parents with The Regular Joes getting people into the swing of things with their jumping jive music.

Alongside the vintage music were artisan food stalls and other performances.

Giant military puppets also proved eye catching with various musicians and performances taking place across the weekend.

Carol Maund, Arts by the Sea festival director said: “It’s been an incredible weekend with something for everyone – from kids workshops and great family theatre to live music and the fantastic Fuel production of the Roof.

“I’ve no doubt the stunning Carabosse Fire Gardens were a highlight for many.

“I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved and we’ve certainly confirmed Bournemouth as an arts destination.

“I hope we’ve inspired people to enjoy the next two weeks of superb art performance.”
