GAS has been restored to the Canford Heath properties cut off after a water main burst last week.

The problems left some residents unable to use their gas for days after significant water damage was caused to gas meters and appliances.

Employees of Southern Gas Networks and Wessex Water worked together to ensure replacements and repairs were undertaken at affected homes around the Culliford Crescent area.

The gas company said the affected homes had their supplies restored by Saturday evening.

Fifty staff have been involved in the operation, and they removed 80,000 litres of water from the site.

Southern Gas Networks apologised and described the work as “particularly challenging”, adding that the work had caused “significant damage”.

In total, more than 650 customers lost their gas supply on Tuesday last week, with 400 reconnected by Friday.

Electric hobs and heaters were supplied to affected homes, and a customer centre was set up at St Paul’s Church.
