CALLING all dancers and firestarters – Bournemouth Borough Council is offering volunteers the chance to help in the exciting events of the Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival, which launches this weekend.

This could range from performing in theatre company Fuel’s The Roof (The Waterfront, Pier Approach – Thursday to Sunday) and lighting the fires for the company Carabosse’s spectacular Fire Gardens (Lower Gardens – Friday and Saturday, September 26-27).

Throughout the festival, friendly, energetic Bournemouth residents with a passion for all things cultural are being encouraged to become an Arts Bournemouth Champion. There are opportunities for volunteers to work weekdays and weekends, daytimes and evenings.

Individuals keen to assist must be 18 years of age or over and reliable with excellent communication skills and an ability to deal with people in a friendly and helpful manner.

Carol Maund, arts and festival manager, said: “Volunteers will be at the centre of the action and excitement, working behind the scenes to help put on one of Bournemouth’s brilliant major events.”

Hannah Boon, who was a volunteer last year, said: “I really enjoyed meeting new people, working with artists and experiencing a diverse range of art work. It was such an enjoyable learning experience, which has helped me improve my people skills greatly.”
