A POLICEMAN has been charged with making threats to kill and disclosing police information.

Allen Christopher Smith has been ordered not to enter Dorset until his next court appearance on October 10.

Appearing at Weymouth Magistrates Court yesterday, Smith, 53, of Cranesmoor Close, Bovington, did not enter pleas to any of the charges put to him.

He is charged with causing fear of violence, namely making telephone calls or sending messages of a threatening nature, making a threat to kill and three counts of knowingly or recklessly disclosing information relating to data protection through his job with Dorset Police.

The court heard that Smith has been signed off sick for a month and prior to this had attended a number of difficult incidents in his role as a Dorset Police Constable.

He was granted bail on condition that he does not enter Dorset apart from to attend court and for pre-arranged appointments with his solicitor, and will reside with his mother in Chatham, Kent, until his next hearing which will take place at Dorchester Crown Court. He was escorted to the border of Dorset and Hampshire by a representative of the Police Federation after the hearing at Weymouth Magistrates yesterday.

Smith was also ordered not to contact the alleged victim or her children.

District Judge Rufus Taylor said: “The fact that you are a serving police officer means you, more than anyone, must appreciate that if you are on bail and breach these conditions, it is going to mean you will go straight into custody.”
