A SPECIAL planning meeting will be held next Monday to consider multi-million pound plans to redevelop Bournemouth’s Winter Gardens site.

Planning officers are recommending the application be given the go-ahead but the decision will be made by councillors on the planning board.

They voted against their officers to refuse the scheme when it came before them last year and some councillors have publicly voiced concerns about the plans.

The proposals seek to build around 114 flats, a 70-bedroom hotel, a leisure complex, entertainment space and shops on the site. There would also be a 550-space car park.

At a planning meeting in August, Cllr Ron Whittaker, vice-chair of the committee, asked developers Inland Ltd to listen to residents and revise the plans to include a permanent indoor ice rink.

And chair of the committee Cllr David Kelsey, criticised a lack of detail in the application. “You have had four chances with lack of detail,” he told the developers.

“I don’t want to be the first chairman to turn something down four times in a row.”

The planning meeting is open to the public and will start at 2pm in the Town Hall.

Councillors will hear from the developers and from objectors to the scheme before making their decision.

The planning officer’s report, which will give full reasons why they are recommending approval, is set to be made public on Monday, September 22.
