COMPLAINTS have been made about the state of filthy road signs along main routes into Christchurch.

Councillors at Christchurch have urged Dorset County Council to clean the signs along the A35, especially between Stony Lane roundabout and the Fountain roundabout, as soon as possible.

The issue was also raised at a full meeting of Christchurch council earlier this month, when Cllr Ray Nottage thanked county councillors for raising the issue with the highways authority.

Commenting on his blog, he said the signs looked “really scruffy” and he hoped the work would be undertaken quickly.

Lead member for transport at Christchurch council, Cllr Nick Geary said: “We’re not very happy about the state of the signs.

“Things are being done; just not as quickly as we would like to see them.

“It doesn’t look good when people are driving into our town to see the state of them.

“We want something to be done and as I understand it, the county council are aware of the issue. It doesn’t send out a great message and I hope the matter is resolved swiftly.” County and borough councillor, Colin Jamieson, who has raised the issue with county officials, added: “We are quite anxious to get the signs on the A35 cleaned.

“It has been arranged for Dorset Highways to do that work when they are cutting back the trees.”

Dorset County Council say the work would be done at the end of October or early November.
