STAFF from Borough of Poole will be getting on their bikes this month as part of the Momentum Cycle Challenge 2014.

Council employees will be competing against businesses in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch to see who can get the highest number of people cycling for at least 10 minutes.

Now in its second year, the challenge is taking place between Monday, September 8, and Sunday, September 28, during which time all rides will be logged on the loveto ride.net/momentum website.

Companies from across the borough are encouraged to join in, with prizes and incentives for teams and individuals on offer.

Cyclists are also invited to attend the Momentum Cycle Challenge roadshow, near the cricket pavilion in Poole Park on Wednesday, between 11am and 5pm.

There will be a range of unusual bikes to try including a penny farthing, kmx cart, tandem and unicycle.

Staff from Primera Sport will take along a range of their latest bikes and council trans-portation staff will be offering information on cycle routes and training.

And if your bike has seen better days, the Dr Bike service will offer free tune-ups and advice on repairs.

Cllr Ian Potter, cabinet portfolio holder for trans-portation said: “I would encourage staff in businesses across Poole to get involved with the Momentum Cycle Challenge.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how Borough of Poole staff compare to others in the area when it comes to getting on their bikes.

“If you are unsure about cycling, the Poole Park roadshow is a great opportunity to find out more, so please come along,” he added.
