It may be September but that doesn’t mean the summer fun has to end. With the temperatures expected to stay in the 20s over the weekend, there’s plenty of things going on to choose from.

From fairs and festivals to a vintage garden party, there’s sure to be something for everyone.

1. Have a dance at Swanage Folk Festival

Join in with the folk festivities in Swanage this weekend where you can expect lots of Morris dancers, bright costumes and jingling bells. From 10.30am on Saturday morning, there are free concerts in the main marquee and assorted children’s activities and entertainment. In addition, all sorts of crafts are shown in a marquee and trade stalls offer a variety of fair trade and ethnic goods for sale at the ‘Festival Village’ on Sandpit Field above the seafront.

2. Travel back in time with the transport rally at Swanage Railway

Witness over 300 displays of vintage vehicles, motorcycles, tractors, and classic cars. Special Rover Tickets are on offer which permit all-day travel and entry for £15 adults and £10 children. Two day tickets are also available for £25 adults and £15 children. However, if this doesn’t take your fancy and you simply want a standard Swanage return railway ride allowing you entry into the rally, adult’s admission costs £4 and children go free.

3. Be entertained at the Dorset County Show

At this year’s Dorset County Show, taking place at the Dorchester Showground, there are over 90 food stands offering all sorts of local produce, more than 2000 animals from sheep to ferrets and the biggest Homecraft marquee in the South West! Entertainment includes a jaw-dropping motorbike stunt show as well as horse and carriage driving. The grounds are open from 8.30am onwards. 4. Give your taste buds a treat at Poole Thai Festival

Head to the Harbour Side of Baiter Park in Poole this weekend for a few Thai delights. Authentic thai cuisine, a traditional costume parade, an eating competition and a Miss Thailand of Great Britain contest are amongst some of the entertainment on offer. 5. Poole’s dog show and fair

Enjoy cream tea by the sea courtesy of Lewis-Manning. The Lilliput Hospice will be holding a vintage garden party, including an arts and crafts fair and dog show this Saturday. The fundraiser will take place at the charity’s gardens at Evening Hill between 1pm and 4pm. Entry is made by donation.

6. Meet your local fire crew at Poole Fire Station open day

This Saturday’s fire station open day will include displays of fire fighting actions and demonstrations. There will be opportunities to see the vehicles they use to help people in emergencies and discover what the crew get up to on a daily basis. Firefighters will be raising funds for the Fire Fighter’s Charity. This event is from 10am to 4pm at Poole Fire Station.

7. Witness a 12 hour gigathon for charity

Blues singer Zoe Schwarz will be performing for 12 hours at Portsmouth Hoy, Poole Quay this Saturday. Her performance will start at midday and finish at midnight, if all goes accordingly! The lead singer of the band Blue Commotion is raising funds for the Richard Elty Trust for Young Musicians.

8. Sing along to the Outdoor Concert at Highcliffe Castle

Bring a picnic and a rug to this free outdoor concert for an afternoon of jazz and swing music. The event starts at 1pm on Sunday afternoon until 4pm. Whilst you’re there, why not make the most of the Three Counties Vintage and Classic Car Club motorcade on the Castle vista, from 11am until 4pm. 9. Step out for Stroke at Poole Park this Sunday

This fun sponsored walk in aid of the Stroke Association is open to people of all ages and abilities. Registration costs £5 and is open from 1pm with a starting time of 2pm. Expect to see the Mayor of Poole, Councillor Peter Adams, who is cutting the ribbon at the start.

10. Enjoy Brownsea Island’s Sunday Scone Fest

If you fancy a sweet treat this weekend, then visit the Villano Cafe Garden on Brownsea Island from 10.30am for some freshly baked delights. 11. Join the penultimate Sky Ride of the year

For those who are feeling active, make the most of the penultimate free guided bike tour this Sunday from 10am. The rides are organised and guided by British Cycling trained Ride Leaders. This Sunday’s steady ride will be a guided pier to pier tour, starting at Bournemouth.
