TWO people have been arrested following a crash in Wales which left two Dorset pensioners seriously injured.

During the incident, which took place on Ponthir Road, Caerleon, on Saturday, August 23, a gold Vauxhall Corsa was involved in a collision with three pedestrians who had been out to dinner at a nearby restaurant.

A 79-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman, both from Poole, and a 63-year-old man sustained serious injuries but are stable and receiving treatment at Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital.

None of those hurt have been named.

The male driver of the Corsa and the female passenger left the scene before police arrived.

The man is described as white, about 20 years old wearing dark bottoms and a white t-shirt with short hair. The woman is described as having shoulder-length hair and wearing trousers and a jacket.

Gwent Police said this morning that they have made two arrests in connection with the incident.

A 20-year-old man from Caerleon has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injuries through dangerous driving; on suspicion of failing to stop at a road traffic collision; and failing to report a road traffic collision.

He remains in custody.

A 41-year-old man, from Newport, has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender. He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward and in particular anyone who may have seen the Corsa being driven before the incident.

It's believed the car was driven towards Ponthir from the centre of Caerleon.

If anyone has information, they are asked to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 595 23/8/14.
