Council takes action to shut down rowdy "party houses"

COUNCIL chiefs in Poole say “robust action” is being taken to help tackle party houses in Canford Cliffs.

Following complaints from local residents about alcohol-fuelled stag and hen parties making their lives a misery, Borough of Poole began investigations at six properties in the upmarket holiday hotspot at the beginning of May.

As a result, the authority is now taking enforcement action against one of the houses for breaching planning legislation.

The council said a noise abatement notice has been issued on a second property and further investigations are being carried out at a third before a decision is made on what action, if any, can be taken.

No action will be taken against the other properties investigated, which have all been sold since the council began its investigation.

Cllr Mike White, deputy leader of the council and cabinet portfolio holder for planning and regeneration at Borough of Poole said the council is “doing all we can” but is constrained by the current laws in place to tackle the issue.

He said: “We have tremendous sympathy for those residents whose lives have been affected by activities of these party houses.

“We are looking at all possible avenues to address this issue but it is a complex legal matter and there is no one piece of legislation that will provide a swift solution.”

He added: “New anti-social behaviour legislation is due to become law in October, and we will be reviewing this to see how it can help us address the problem of noise disturbance and anti-social behaviour associated with party houses.”

Does this mean the chances of anything being done about the places serving drinks to people who are already blind drunk on Ashley Cross are even slimmer as the council staff will be too busy running after Canford Cliffs residents.

Does this mean that the council will take the same approach action to all anti social behaviour including University students in HMO's in Winton, Charminster and other areas with a high concentration student ?
I don't think this will be the case because these areas don't have the same financial clout as Canford Cliffs.

Perhaps the council can then use these powers against all the noisy students in Winton and Charminster.

Uhm I think you will find that we still have seperate councils for Poole and Bournemouth, so I cant see how Poole council can do anything about the student houses in Winton or Charminster.

Poole council might not be able to do anything directly but they could show the lazy council in Bournemouth the way to go but it won't happen. MONEY TALKS AND ALWAYS HAS DONE.

The word 'robust' is entirely overused and misinterpreted by councils and the police. It means 'We will do sod all...after this appears in the local rag'.

'Robust' is what the police in St Louis were doing, before the do-gooders got involved. Now, 'robust' means 'holding hands' and singing 'Kumbaya'.
