AN “OUTSTANDING” Bournemouth nursery celebrated its 10th birthday with a party for families.

Park View Nursery in Moore Avenue laid on party games, messy play and mask-making as they marked a decade of providing childcare to local families.

The nursery, which is run by the Children’s Society, was ranked ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted earlier this year.

Nursery manager Rebecca Brown, who has been working at the nursery ever since it opened in 2004, said there had been a move over the past decade to give young children more opportunities to choose their own activities.

She said: “There is always a mix of child-led and adult-led activities but these days we encourage children to take play in their own direction more than we used to.

“That means allowing them to mix different toys and encouraging them to use their imagination more. So rather than tell them to draw a picture of their family, for example, we will get out the pens and paper and allow them to express themselves.”

She said she was “extremely pleased” with their glowing Ofsted report and thanked parents and carers for their support.
