THE UK’s smallest cinema will host a tribute to American actor Robin Williams this August.

Bournemouth Colosseum, which seats just 20 people, will screen clips of stand-up performed by the comedian, as well as interviews and finally one of the star’s most famous films.

The event comes just weeks after the cinema – housed beneath Lavish Life in Westbourne arcade – screened an evening dedicated to the memory of actor Rik Mayall, who died in June this year.

Following the show, a donation will be made to a charity supporting people who suffer with mental health illnesses.

Owner Paul Whitehouse said: “We’d like the evening to be a celebration of Robin Williams’ life. We’re going to put together some footage which will feature interviews that he did on the television and parts of comedy routines he performed as a stand-up, and the evening will end with one of his films – most likely Dead Poets’ Society.”

Williams died on August 11 at the age of 63 at his home in California.

The actor, who reportedly committed suicide, took the leading role in a host of Hollywood films, including Mrs Doubtfire, Jumanji and Good Morning, Vietnam.

Mr Whitehouse said: “We’re going to hold the evening on August 30, and at the moment I expect it’ll sell out quite quickly.

“Lots of people are huge fans of his films and comedy, like me. I grew up with Robin Williams in the same way that I’ve always watched Rik Mayall on the television, so it’s great for me to be able to pay a proper tribute to him.”

The Colosseum specialises in showing classic films alongside mainstream movies. Earlier this year, another tribute evening was held to celebrate the anniversary of The Great Escape, which raised funds for Star and Garter Home, a residential home for former service personnel. Another Hollywood legend will be honoured next month.

Mr Whitehouse said: “We’re going to be screening a number of films in honour of Lauren Bacall this September.

“We’re looking at showing some of her work over a few nights.”

Tickets for the Robin Williams’ tribute evening are priced at £10.
