FIREFIGHTERS battled a garage and sauna blaze this morning.

Crews from Springbourne and Westbourne were called this morning to Ettrick Road in Branksome Chine.

On arrival, the crews requested two more pumps who were sent from Redhill Park and Poole fire stations.

Firefighters used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and one CAFS - compressed air foam system - to extinguish the fire.

Crew manager Trevor Chamberlain told the Daily Echo at the scene that the service was alerted to the fire at 7.20am.

Firefighters arrived to find the double garage and sauna, a separate building to the main house, well-alight.

He said the householders spotted smoke and called the fire brigade.

The flames got within a few metres of the main house, but firefighters were able to stop them spreading.

An investigation into the cause is under way, he added.
