Here's our pick of just some of the events taking place to make sure your weekend is one to remember.

What about the weather? The Met Office says we'll see highs of 18C on Saturday with sunny spells in the morning before it clouds over in the afternoon. 

While Sunday will see light rain so don't forget to take your brolly with you.

1. Roll up and see classic cars on display

Lotus 7s and Caterhams will be on display as part of Friday night’s Quay for my Car event at Rockley Park. Owners will be showing off their vehicles at the free event between 6pm and 9pm.

2. Say ooh and ahh to Friday night fireworks

It’s the penultimate Friday Family Fiesta of the season so if you haven’t been yet, there’s still time. Family entertainment starts at 7pm with fire performances, stilt walkers, circus workshops, and face painting before a firework finale at Bournemouth Pier from 10pm..

3. Go Jurassic in Poole

For one weekend only, Poole’s Dolphin Shopping Centre will be home to an exciting archaeological site. Between 11am and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, youngsters can take part in a mini excavation and learn about the Jurassic Coast and its inhabitants, meet the dinosaur detectives and go on a fossil hunt around the centre. There will also be dinosaur related games and activities at the free event.

4. Have a ball at Christchurch Carnival

Get ready for a Christchurch Carnival extravaganza. The two-day event will see live music and dance at Christchurch Quay along with fireworks on Saturday and the traditional carnival parade on Sunday. A variety of activities will take place including a craft tent for children, performances from Kaleido-scope dancers, a Zumba demonstration and music from a Gary Barlow tribute act and other bands will take place throughout Saturday with food from cream teas to delicious Thai dishes on offer along with a bar on site to quench the thirst. B Coles funfair will also be taking place at the Quay throughout the weekend. The procession leaves the rear of the Civic Offices at 2pm on Sunday.

5. Hear the buzz about bees

A special event celebrating all things bee-related takes place at Knoll Gardens in Wimborne on Saturday between 10am and 4pm. There will be lots of activities on offer including guided walks, talks from bee experts and local bee-related products on sale such as honey and beeswax candles. Children can also make bee houses.

6. Celebrate diversity at West Howe fun day

A fun day celebrating equality and diversity is aiming to bring people from the West Howe and Kinson area together on Sunday. The inaugural event takes place at the Henry Brown Youth Centre between 2pm and 5pm and there will be a bouncy castle, cultural foods, Bollywood dancing, BMX stunt riding, live entertainment and much more. The event has been organised by a group of dedicated volunteers from the West Howe Community Enterprises.

7. Join the Swanage Lifeboat Week celebrations

Swanage Lifeboat Week comes to a close this weekend with a host of events taking place at the seafront. The Lifeboat Festival and Fair will take place at Prince Albert Gardens on both days between 11am and 5pm, while on Saturday there will be a build a boat contest between 12pm and 4pm ahead of the build a boat race at The Stone Quay between 4pm and 5pm. A raft race will also take place at main beach between 5pm and 6.30pm on Saturday. On Sunday, the Lifeboat Fun Run will take place between 9am and 10am and there will be a Lifeboat Service at Swanage Pier from 7pm.

8. Witness the 80ft WW1 road run

On Saturday, a 1914 WW1 Holt 75 Gun Tractor will be moved from Bovington’s Tank Museum to the Great Dorset Steam Fair site Tarrant Hinton site. The 80ft-long load will form part of a special WW1 display at this year’s event, which runs from 27th until 31st August. A steam lorry, a Daimler lorry and a traction engine will also be part of the convoy and the crew will be dressed in British Army uniform from the time.

The load is scheduled to leave Bovington Tank Museum at 10.30am where it will travel to Tout Hill and onto Bere Regis before joining the A35 then the A31. Around 11.30am, just before the exit towards Winterborne Kingston, the load is scheduled for a break before travelling into Blandford. Onlookers will be able to take photographs while it stops for 45 minutes in Blandford Town Centre. It will leave Blandford around 2.15pm and head up the A354 towards Pimperne, arriving at the showground at approximately 2.45pm. Timings are subject to change. Visit gdsf.co.uk for details

9. See the stars of the future perform hits from the musicals

More than 100 young people aged between 9-16-years-old will be staging not one but two performances on the final day of the Summer Youth Project in the Pavilion Ballroom on Saturday. The week-long project has seen youngsters working on song and musical theatre routines, from much-loved West End and Broadway musicals and will be putting their hard work into practice with shows at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are £8.

10. Try out a new sport in Poole Park

Head to Poole Park on Sunday between 11am and 3pm for the chance to try out over 20 different sports. The one-day Join In Sports Festival, which is being hosted by Borough of Poole, will see the park filled with sports clubs offering have a go sessions, tasters and demonstrations. Visitors to the event will be able to have a go at a large number of sports including mainstream, non-traditional and disability sports .Free for Access To Leisure and Learning cardholders and £2.50 per person for non-cardholders, with group tickets for four people available for £8.

11. Come along to the bat night

The Friends of Boscombe Chine Gardens are holding their annual bat night on Saturday at 8pm. Jan Freeborn and colleagues from the Dorset Bat Group will attend, bringing with them bat boxes to listen to the creatures as they search for insects. The one hour event costs £1, going to the Dorset Bat Group.

12. Be entertained at Pier Approach

The next generation of British jazz musicians will be taking to the stage at Pier Approach to entertain the crowds on Saturday. The National Youth Jazz Orchestra will be doing two free performances, with one at 4pm and another at 5.15pm. Then on Sunday, Bournemouth’s Chicken Soup Choir will be bringing the feel good factor ahead of a family screening of Rio2 at 6pm.

13. Enjoy Roald Dahl classic in the open air

Following on from their succes with James and the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr Fox and The Twits, Illyria returns to bring Roald Dahl classic George’s Marvellous Medicine to life against the dramatic backdrop of Corfe Castle. 14. Join the Sky Ride

For those who fancy getting out and about on two wheels this weekend, there are two guided events taking place as part of Sky Ride Bournemouth on Sunday. A 22mile bike ride, taking place over three hours, will leave Bournemouth velodrome at 10am, taking in Sandbanks, Poole Harbour and Bournemouth before heading back to its starting point. If a three hour ride is all too much, join an eight mile ride taking in the scenery of Christchurch and its harbour which starts at Hengistbury Head car park at 2pm.
