TV adventurer Bear Grylls 'lifts legal action' against Swanage company

First published in News

BEAR Grylls appears to have ended a row with a Swanage-based company after the TV adventurer's lawyers demanded the word 'Bear' was removed from their name.

Bear Blades UK, a small business which opened in 2012, received a letter from Carpmaels & Ransford on behalf of Bear Grylls Ventures on July 25 saying that they must remove the word 'Bear' from their name, logo and website.

Owen Senior, who set up Bear Blades UK, called the action “ridiculous”, adding: “I don't see how they can do this.”

However, after the furore was taken up by media outlets across the country, Mr Grylls appears to have extended the olive branch.

In a tweet, he told one follower he “feels awful” about the decision and “didn't know [it] had been done”.

He also tweeted Bear Blades to say: “You guys are good to go! Apologies again. Good luck and let us know if we can ever help you in your endeavours.”

Mr Senior said the company will continue to trade as Bear Blades UK, but added: “We've had nothing official at all other than the tweet.

“It's been implied that it's probable that we'll be able to carry on as usual, and we plan to do just that.”

Mr Grizzly Bear is gutted. He was hoping for a one on one showdown with the fake one to pronounce the true rights to 'bear' within the Animal Kingdom. He had popped his pinny on and lit the BBQ ready for the outcome...."i guess it's just back to the Honey", Mr Grizzly said in an interview.

I suspect that he knew nothing about it when it started but he should certainly Bear his teeth at the legal firm he employs. The person at the legal firm who started it all and those above him who sanctioned the case should be punished and named and shamed.

Think in the world of celebrity, fame and money, it is often a case of "our lawyers are watching". Which means the famous people employing them aren't, lawyers are their eyes and ears. Only when a c*ck up like this happens does the "employer" get involved,

Didn't Victoria Beckham want to protect the word Posh? And didn't she try and stop a football team callling themselves "the Posh"? Think that idea ended up on the scrapheap.
