EMERGENCY gas works in Christchurch are causing delays for motorists.

Southern Gas Networks have apologised to residents for the ongoing work in Hurn Road.

They are on site today digging up the road to carry out emergency repairs.

A spokesperson said: “We're currently working in Hurn Road, Christchurch with the use of temporary traffic lights to ensure the safety of the public and our engineers.

“We are aiming to reinstate the road surface this afternoon and remove the traffic lights by the end of the day.

“On Monday, we will return to carry out the second stage of this work. Once again temporary traffic lights will be required. We intend to finish all our work at this location by Tuesday morning.

“We'd like to apologise to residents and road-users for any inconvenience our work at this location may cause.”
