A broken down lorry has closed two lanes of the A31, causing long delays on both the A31 and A338.

The tanker lost a wheel on the eastbound carriageway just before the A338 Fordingbridge/Ringwwod turn-off at about 6.15am this morning.

The road was down to two lanes, with the outside lanes closed, between Ashley Heath and the Verwood turn-off. The incident caused long queues on the A31 eastbound and on the A338 northbound.

A recovery lorry arrived on the scene at 7.25am and the road was reopened just after 8am..

I expect there are a few questioning why it wasnt pushed to the nearest lay-by thus allowing them to rush to their destination :)

People made comments in the week as to why a car was not pushed off the road out of their way when in fact it was mechanically impossible for the poor guy and his grandson to do anything.yet it did not stop certain people questioning the non -actions of motorists and the police.Hence my sarcastic remark ,sorry if it offends :)

Yes and i made just such a comment last week. That was a car however. This was a lorry. I don't think anybody would suggest pushing a three wheeled lorry. As for the chap and his grandson, yes perhaps they might not have been able to push it. Perhaps the traffic wombles stood around it may have thought about it though.

Still, I'm sure we all are quick to jump on the band wagon for a reason. For the endless hours we all sit in traffic queues for really very little reason. I think putting on a police uniform these days is a reason to NOT do something sadly.
