orset Police's summer drink drive crackdown has come to an end with 87 people charged in total.

And in a bid to continue the clampdown, the public is being urged to continue to report anyone they suspect of drink-driving.

The force highlights the issue twice a year - at Christmas and in the summer - with the summer crackdown running throughout July.

In all, 87 people were charged with drink or drug-driving offences - 64 men and 23 women.

Those charged continue to face magistrates and will appear in ongoing coverage.

Sgt Nikki Burt, of Dorset Police's Traffic Unit, said: “Unfortunately there are still some drivers in Dorset who are not getting the message that drinking and driving is dangerous and is simply not worth the risk.”

Anyone caught drink-driving faces a minimum 12-month driving ban, up to six months in prison and a fine of up to £5,000.

Sgt Burt added: “I would like to thank those members of the public who called us to report a drink driver. I'd continue to urge anyone who suspects someone is driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol to call us so we can take action.”

Urgent information about someone driving under the influence should be reported by dialling 999.

Non-urgent information should be reported on 101 or by ringing Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
