FIREFIGHTERS tackled a 'deliberate' heathland blaze at Bourne Valley nature reserve this afternoon.

Crews from Poole and Redhill Park battled the flames, gaining access from Monkton Crescent, havening initially been sent to Bloxworth Road.

Two engines and a Landover were dispatched to extinguish the fire, which was called in by a member of the public at 3.30pm.

Around 3,000 square metres of heathland was ablaze when crews arrived.

Although the fire was extinguished by approximately 4.15pm, firefighters stayed at the scene afterwards to ensure the flames didn't reignite.
