Among the highlights at the sixth annual fair were the Purbeck Gun Dog display team, ferret racing and a birds of prey display.

Organiser Emma Owen, of Oakleigh Fairs, told the Daily Echo: “The great people of Poole and the surrounding area decided to completely ignore that it was pouring with rain first thing on Saturday, ignore the weather forecast and came out anyway, bless them.

“We’ve been bathed in sunshine all afternoon and there’s been a really good mixture of locals and holidaymakers.”

Emma said the equestrian acrobatics went down particularly well with the crowds.

“It is very, very skillful, but also great fun. Girls in spotty knickers turning upside down is quite a sight,” she added.

The event was opened by Poole Mayor and Mayoress Peter and Brenda Adams.
