A PERSON was killed after being hit by a train at New Milton railway station yesterday. 

Police confirmed it received a call to the scene at 5.14pm on Saturday following reports a person had been struck.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said a crew from South Central Ambulance Service attended the scene.

“It is currently being treated as a non-suspicious fatality,” she added. “British Transport Police are currently trying to identify the next of kin.

“A file is currently being prepared for the coroner’s office.

“Any witnesses should call us on 0800 405040 quoting nspis 370 of August 2.”

Services between Bournemouth and Brockenhurst were suspended for several hours as a result of the incident and replacement buses were used in an attempt to minimise disruption.

South West Trains posted on Twitter at 11.05pm to confirm the track had been cleared and that trains were again running as normal.
