A COURAGEOUS teenage cancer sufferer from Bournemouth is on course to beat the illness for a third time.

Chandos Green, of Windham Road, received the heartbreaking news in May that a brain tumour, which had been in remission for 12 years, had started growing again.

The 19-year-old was first diagnosed with the disease aged three and again when he was six.

Earlier this year he began to suffer severe headaches and dizzy spells before an MRI scan confirmed the 12mm growth was increasing in size again.

“Last year I made the decision that if I was re-diagnosed I would just leave it as I thought it would just cause so so much pain for so many people,” said Chandos.

After soul searching, the university student decided to fight again and underwent a four-and-a half-hour operation at Southampton General Hospital, where surgeons successfully removed all but a ‘microscopic’ part of the tumour.

The social work undergraduate has been working on a single, I Fight For, with rising singing star Georgia Flatman and writer Brad Hayes, to try and raise money for the hospital charity where he was treated.

Chandos received further offers of help from X Factor’s Little Nikki and The Voice star Max Milner.

An acoustic version of the song will be released this week.

His #ifightfor campaign aims to get people involved in a million hours of volunteering, asking people to celebrate the work they do with a photo featuring the #ifightfor tag.

'Try to think of positives'

Chandos shared this positive message, urging anyone else faced with a similar situation not to give up.

He added: “I always question myself every day – why am I in this position?

“Why have I got a brain tumour?

“Why have I had three operations and why is it possible to have them again in the future?

“These are really big questions for a reason.

“I might not ever know the answer.

“But if I think about it too much I put myself in a negative frame of mind.

“I know that a lot of people will do that – go over the same questions and answers and get into a loop.

“I think it is important not to put yourself into that position because it makes it worse for you.”

He advised people to instead: “Just think about the positives.”
