A PROGRAMME of music, dance and movies has been announced for the events space at Pier Approach.

The former Imax site will play host to the OnStage at Pier Approach programme, backed by Co Wheels Car Company and Bournemouth Borough Council, between Monday and August 24.

The free events are in addition to the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra concerts on Saturday, August 9, for which a ticket ballot was held earlier this month.

Shows over the next month will include Madness and Stevie Wonder tribute acts, the ACM Gospel Choir, open air film nights and a party band playing songs inspired by Mumford and Sons and Avicii.

Councillor Lawrence Williams, cabinet member for tourism, leisure and culture, said: “Bournemouth is renowned for hosting a number of fantastic free summer events for residents and visitors to enjoy. We hope another impressive line-up this year will get the crowds down to the seafront to enjoy the entertainment on offer. I would encourage everyone to take a look at Bournemouth.co.uk to see what’s on and make sure they don’t miss out.”

As well as the OnStage at Pier Approach events, a number of other opportunities for fun in the town take place throughout the summer.

The Friday Family Fiesta has already started running every Friday until August 22, offering families a combination of entertainment, including fireworks at 10pm, circus workshops and shows, fire performances, stilt walkers and more.

The Kids Family Fun Festival is free, with children’s shows in the Lower Gardens, art workshops, performing magicians, jesters, puppet workshops, comedy, party games and more.

Families can join in every day from 11am – 5pm from Monday until August 24.

Candlelight Nights will also be back to illuminate the Lower Gardens from July 30 through to August 20.

One of Bournemouth’s oldest traditions, the candles will be lit at dusk.
