THE biggest fundraising event of Margaret Green Animal Rescue’s (MGAR) year is set to take place next month.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend the charity’s dog show and family fun day, which takes place at the Church Knowle animal sanctuary and visitors centre.

Lucy Compton, of MGAR, said: “Join in with all the fun on the day and enter one of the 17 dog show classes.

“From pedigree classes to novelty classes such as ‘waggiest tail’ and ‘best MGAR rescue’, there really is something for every dog.

“Dogs that have been rehomed from Margaret Green also have the chance to qualify for Buckham Fair.”

A competition to find the best rescued and rehomed dogs started at Buckham Fair, near Beaminster in 2012.

Visitors to Margaret Green’s dog show and fun day insist you do not have to own a dog to enjoy the occasion.

“The charity has organised a full programme of stalls and attractions including a dog scurry, bouncy castle and kids’ zone, band and Pimms tent,” said Lucy.

There will also be a BBQ and refreshments stand. This year’s prize draw top prize is a cheque for £500.

Lucy said: “The dog show is the biggest fundraising event in the charity’s calendar and they are urging people to come along and support them.

“Every penny raised will go directly back into caring for more than 1,200 animals each year who have been rescued from abuse or neglect, have been abandoned or whose owners can no longer look after them.”

Entrance to the event is £3 for adults and £1 for children aged 12 and under.

It takes place at Margaret Green Animal Rescue animal sanctuary and visitor centre, Church Knowle, on Sunday, August 3, between 11am and 4pm.
