OVER-running roadworks were the source of frustration for motorists on the Bournemouth and Poole border this morning.

Southern Gas Networks began working on a leaking gas main in Wallisdown Road last night, having agreed with the council to carry out the work at a quiet time to minimise disruption, a spokesman said.

The leak was repaired on Wednesday night, but the Tarmac was not laid until this morning and needed time to harden before the road could be fully reopened.

Drivers reported long delays in all directions while the temporary lights were being used.

Claire Buchanan, a spokesman for Southern Gas Networks, said: “Our repair works on Wallisdown Road have been completed and the temporary traffic lights have been removed. We would like to thank road users for their patience while we carried out this essential work.”
