A SCHOOLBOY was knocked to the ground in Poole by a car which then left the scene.

The six-year-old boy was pushing his bicycle on a pelican crossing in Wimborne Road beside his mother when the green car drove through the red light and collided with the bike, knocking him over.

Fortunately, although shaken, he was uninjured during the incident, which took place at around 3.45pm on Thursday last week.

The driver failed to stop at the scene and the car continued on towards Fleetsbridge.

Police Constable Mark Palmer, of Dorset Police's Traffic Unit, said: “It was fortunate that the boy was not more seriously injured.

“I am appealing to the driver of the green car to come forward to help us ascertain exactly what happened.

“It is believed that the car is a quite distinctive colour - the mother describes it as 'bogey' green so it is possible someone may remember the incident or saw the vehicle in the area at the time.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 11:135. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
