CELEBRATIONS are under way at a Bournemouth school rated as outstanding by government inspectors.

Queens Park Academy gained top marks in every part of the inspection just three years after the school it replaced was put in special measures for providing an “inadequate” education.

The school, which has 420 pupils between the ages of seven and 11, has made dramatic improvements under the leadership of Principal Alexandra Prout and Executive Principal Brian Hooper.

Ofsted visited the East Way junior school in June to observe lessons and hold meetings with staff, parents, pupils and governors.

They said all students make outstanding progress and leave at the age of 11 with levels of attainment well above average.

Teaching, pupil behaviour, safety, leadership and governance were all rated as outstanding following the two-day visit from the inspection team on June 17 and 18.

Their report, which has just been published, said: “Parents greatly appreciate what is done to help their children enjoy their time in the academy and their preparation for the next stage of their education is excellent.

“Pupils behave outstandingly well. They love coming to the Academy and attendance is above average. They love taking on responsibility and are excellent ambassadors for the academy.”

Queens Park Academy converted to Academy status in October 2012 and has been under the leadership of Mr Hooper evr since.

Inspectors said they hope it will expand as a centre of teaching and learning excellence for the benefit of staff, pupils and other schools.
