Thousands set to flock to 10th Bourne Free Festival

Bournemouth Echo: Thousands set to flock to 10th Bourne Free Festival Thousands set to flock to 10th Bourne Free Festival

THOUSANDS of people are expected to flock to Bournemouth to celebrate the town’s annual gay festival this weekend.

Former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, 90s boyband Damage and X-Factor semi-finalist Misha B are set to perform at this year’s Bourne Free Festival.

In celebration of the charity’s tenth anniversary, the theme for this year’s LGBT event is ‘the decades’.

The parade, which looks set to be bigger than ever before, will start at 11am on the East Overcliff Drive on Saturday before making its way through the town and finishing up at the Triangle.

Entertainment will take place at the Triangle and at the Bandstand in the Lower Gardens.

Martyn Underhill, trustee of Bourne Free, said: “Bourne Free is all about celebrating diversity particularly in the LGBT community. The Bourne Free Pride Festival is important to integrate communities across Dorset.”

Have a great weekend all, and well done to the organisers for keeping it going from strength to strength, the weather is looking good!

And Pete, the parade is to celebrate community diversity, ALL are welcome to attend, you do not have to be LGBT, just FRIENDLY.

These parades and events are so important and should continue, until the day when all that are seen as 'different' (because of sexuality, race, mobility, belief etc etc etc) are accepted regardless, without fear of abuse or assault - still a long way to go.

And indeed they are still spat at, egged in the street and subject to abuse from small minded people. Inclusion is also about integrating hetrosexual communites and LGBT communities.

We have a lot of hetrosexual people come into our club because no one judges them for what they look like, how big they are or pick on them for things that unfortunately in "straight" town people are abused for. They are welcomed by the LGBT community, feel comfortable in their surroundings and contrary to idiotic beliefs they are not going to be cracked onto!

The one thing you will find in a gay club is that you are guaranteed a fabulous night out and will be welcomed by everyone. We don't have labels, we don't tolerate abuse. However we do talk to people who may be concerned or who display homophobic irrational behaviour and those people always come back.

The word 'Homosexual' just about covers it, IF one uses the dictionary definition. Unfortunately people tend to make up their own definitions of words and misinterpret perfectly good words. This means that they have to make up new words or acronyms such as LGBT.

BTW. Homophobic literally means 'fear of something which is the same' - an example of making up words when someone failed to understand what the original words meant in the first place.

Oh but things is way more complex and more interesting than that. You know when you fill in a form that includes gender: M or F. Just those two right? Well the NHS has to address the medical definitions of gender and gender issues and you would not believe the number of 'types' they require for this. I can't recall exactly but is it in the twenties in number?
For example there are people who are genetically 100% male but are some of the most stunningly beautiful women on the planet. Because of their underlying nature they can be thought of as the most completely feminine humans in every way. But genetically male. The reasons are awesomely fascinating and very worthy of personal research.
