Appeal for residents to volunteer as flood wardens

Bournemouth Echo: Appeal for residents to volunteer as flood wardens Appeal for residents to volunteer as flood wardens

COMMUNITIES across Dorset are being asked to get involved in managing flood risk in their area.

Many areas already have flood wardens who work with parish or town councils during flooding incidents, checking drainage channels, supporting people affected and attempting to reduce the risk and impact of flooding.

Flood wardens need to be good communicators, have an interest in their local area and be contactable during the day.

Training will be given on all areas of the work and there is an annual seminar, to share experiences and to learn more about flooding.

Contact the Environment Agency? This must be a joke surely. The EA is a not fit for purpose expensive quango, that over the years has singularly failed to listen to 'communities' and the people in them with far greater knowledge of local flooding risks.

Is that part of the Cameron big society?
