A ROWING Club from Poole has received support from a world-renowned film star and some Olympic athletes for its novelty calendars.

Poole Amateur Rowing Club, on West Quay Road, has made a calendar entitled A Year at the Movies 2015 to raise funds towards a new boathouse and equipment.

After the club contacted them, British rowers and Olympic gold medallists James Cracknell and Sir Steve Redgrave agreed to back the calendars.

Star of Calendar Girls and film actress, Helen Mirren, also offered to help the club’s fundraising efforts by sending some signed memorabilia to be auctioned off at the Poole Rowing Regatta in August.

Marie Tudor, a member of the club, said: “The fact that James Cracknell and Sir Steve Redgrave want to get involved as well, by signing some on the calendars for us, is fantastic.

“I also contacted Helen Mirren and she sent us a limited edition photo of herself on the red carpet for us to auction off.”

Marie said that the club is hoping to raise around £2,000 to put towards fixing up its boathouse, which has a leaking roof, and it also needs some new flooring.

The calendars will go on sale at the regatta taking place on August 2, at Hamworthy Park, costing £5 each.
